Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Today, our community marked Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
We heard stories of the harms done by the Indian Residential School System and how they have crossed generations. We heard stories of how the Mi’kmaq people supported some of the earliest European settlers after they arrived in our region, and we learned of efforts that are now helping not only to preserve indigenous traditions locally, but to share the Mi’kmaq culture with the broader community.

To ensure that this facility continues to provide for our community, we are announcing a federal investment which will allow the Pictou County Wellness Centre to host the BOOST National, a major 2023 Grand Slam of Curling event, as well as other large-scale events in the future.

The Nova Scotia 55+ games are wrapping up today in Pictou County and I would like to send a huge congrats to all who participated!
Every two years, the Nova Scotia games brings communities together for a week full of competition, physical activity, and memorable experiences.
