Celebrating 250 Years of the Ship Hector!

250 years ago the Ship Hector landed in Pictou County!

The arrival of the Hector represents the beginning of Scottish settlers inhabiting Nova Scotia and it began a trend that saw generations of families from Scotland, including my own, come to call Canada home.

I want to thank Her Excellency, the Rt. Hon. Governor-General Mary Simon, His Excellency, the Hon. Arthur LeBlanc, Premier Tim Houston, the Hon. Karla MacFarlane and Chief Andrea Paul for helping mark this historic occasion for our region and Province.

After the ceremony, I joined the community in grabbing a sneak peek of the work to restore the Ship Hector, which is scheduled to be back in the water by the end of next Summer and will offering tours to local residents and tourists alike!

Thank you to everyone, especially all of the volunteers of the Ship Hector Society, for all of your effort in marking this incredible milestone and organizing this summer’s events!

Once the vessel is seaworthy, I’ll look forward to joining you for a sail on Pictou Harbour!
