Building Back Better After Hurricane Fiona

After Hurricane Fiona devastated our communities last year, I was grateful for the many community organizations that stepped up to serve as comfort centres to help people during their time of need.

As the frequency of severe weather events increases, we’ve got to do more to ensure we’re ready to look after one another.

This morning, we announced a $9 million fund that will help local comfort centres purchase the equipment or make the upgrades they need to respond to future severe weather events, including generators, beds, blankets, satellite phones, accessibility improvements, and more.

Thank you to everyone who helped their neighbours during last year’s hurricane. We’re going to partner with you to make sure you are better equipped to support your community during the next emergency.
