This morning I had the chance to drive across a newly built section of Highway 104 for the first time with my friend and supporter Chief Joe MacDonald.

This is Omar. He is an awesome kid - I met him with his family when they arrived as part of the effort to take in 25,000 Syrian refugees beginning in 2015.

Omar wanted to save up for a Nintendo Switch, so he started a lemonade stand. His mom told him about another boy about his age that she knows from Syria who needs surgery after being diagnosed with throat cancer.

August 11th, 2021 - Far too many Canadians can’t afford the medicine they need to be well - we are working to change that.

Today, PEI became the first province to sign an agreement with Canada’s Minister of Health Patty Hajdu and the federal government to accelerate the implementation of a national universal pharmacare system. I am hopeful that other provinces, including Nova Scotia, will soon be in a position to do the same.

On August 1st, Nova Scotia formally recognizes Emancipation Day for the first time.

This date commemorates the 187th anniversary of the British parliament abolishing slavery across its empire which resulted in the freeing of approximately 800,000 enslaved people of African descent.

Access to housing remains a barrier for far too many people in our communities.

I've been spending a lot of time meeting with groups about affordable housing in our region, and have helped advance important projects in the area I represent.

Canada hits another vaccination milestone - we now have a higher percentage of fully vaccinated people than the United States.

Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. Yet, far too many members of our community struggle with finding a place to live.

The Atlantic Economic Forum is something I’ve been working on over the past few years, and in particular since the beginning of the pandemic. Last week, StFX University announced the event is officially going ahead with a contribution of $200,000 from the federal government, and that it will be hosted at the new Mulroney Institute of Government on campus in Antigonish.

New Affordable Childcare Agreement made with the Province of Nova Scotia!

Every child deserves the best possible start in life, and parents should have the ability to build both a family and a career. Yet, too many Canadians lack access to affordable, inclusive, and high quality childcare. The COVID-19 pandemic has also made clear that without access to childcare, parents - and women in particular - cannot fully participate in the workforce.

Our 4th of July came with its own brand of fireworks with this fella’s arrival.

Happy to report that Mom, baby, and big sister Molly are all doing well. We’re so thrilled to add this little guy to our family.

It's been just weeks since the bodies of 215 Indigenous children were found on the grounds of a former Residential School in Kamloops.

Today, we have learned that hundreds more have been discovered on the site of the former Marieval Residential School in Saskatchewan by the Cowessess First Nation.

Big news for Antigonish! Today I had the chance to announce over $1.6M of federal funding to establish a new active transportation trail system which will run through the heart of the Town of Antigonish and connect with existing and future active transportation pathways in the community.

As the current session of Parliament wraps up today, I was honoured to see the Hill Times annual Parliamentary awards acknowledge some of the effort I've put in to help the Government navigate the economic response to COVID-19.

Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. The reality is that for far too many people, housing remains out of reach.

This problem is exacerbated for many Indigenous communities because the rules that govern land use on reserves preclude Indigenous peoples from getting a mortgage or owning property in the communities where they were born and raised. This is just one example of systemic racism in Canada and it must be addressed.
