The Green Economy here in Nova Scotia

There are some incredible companies here in Nova Scotia that are creating jobs in the green economy, saving people money, and identifying solutions in the fight against climate change.

Graphite Innovation Technologies has developed a new hull paint for vessels that can reduce fuel consumption on fishing boats by up to 20% and reduce vessel noise by 6-7 decibels. These findings came as the result of a study that benefitted from $2.4 Million through Transport Canada.

The fuel savings alone would allow the cost of the paint to be recouped in the first season, and the opportunity to scale up by applying the coating on more (and larger) vessels will provide a serious growth opportunity for the company.

This is a terrific development. It’s incredible to see these innovative environmental solutions coming out of Nova Scotia.
