Visit to Frank H. MacDonald School!
It was a walk down memory lane today at Frank H. MacDonald school when I stopped by and chatted with some students and staff.
It was a good reminder that every child in Canada should have access to healthy and nutritious food.
Mental Health Week 2024
As Mental Health Week comes to a close, let’s continue to take care of ourselves and our loved ones.
Mental health challenges can affect anyone at any stage of life. We’re continuing to work collaboratively with provinces, territories, and Indigenous communities to improve access and quality of care.
Commemorating the Battle of the Atlantic
Yesterday we commemorated the Battle of the Atlantic, and reflected on the sacrifices made during the longest battle of the Second World War.
During the darkest days of the war, thousands of Canadians in the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Merchant Navy, and the Royal Canadian Air Force faced perilous conditions to protect our seas and to maintain supply chains that supported the war effort.
Cleaning up our Oceans!
A bit of good news for our ocean!
After Hurricane Fiona, we put some funding towards cleaning abandoned fishing gear (or “ghost gear”) out of the marine environment locally.
It is a significant source of plastic pollution that can remain in the water for centuries.
The Hurricane Fiona Ghost Gear Fund, which included over $7 Million in funding for local communities, has contributed to the retrieval of over 695 tonnes of gear and 453km of rope
The Sheet Harbour Lifestyle Centre is One Step Closer to Becoming a Reality!
The new Eastern Shore Lifestyle Centre is closer to becoming a reality!
This project is receiving a $3.6 Million investment from the federal government to provide Sheet Harbour residents with a new place to gather, connect, and engage with their community for years to come.
Exciting News for Fishing Communities!
With lobster season underway on the Eastern Shore and about to begin on the Northumberland Strait, it’s essential that we make the investments necessary to support the industry that helps drive our local economy.
Creating an Economy that Works for Everyone
We want to build an economy that works for everyone.
So, we’re going to raise taxes on the wealthiest to help solve the housing crisis, create a national school food program for kids, advance new coverage for medicine, mental health, and dental care, and forgive student loans for teachers and health care workers that choose to work in small towns and rural communities like ours.
Supporting Young Entrepreneurs
Are you under 40 and looking to start a business?
Check out the Futurpreneur program, which provides financing and advisory services to young entrepreneurs!
Budget 2024: Fairness for Every Generation
It’s Budget Day!
Budget 2024 is focused on solving the housing crisis, making life more affordable, strengthening the social safety net, and creating good paying jobs for Canadians.
Nova Scotia has a lot to be proud of
When it comes to solving the housing crisis, Nova Scotia has a lot to be proud of.
It was an honour to acknowledge some of the people, projects, and companies from home who helped inspire federal policies at a recent national press conference.
Introducing Canada’s Housing Plan
I know we're going to solve the housing crisis because I know what Canadians are capable of.
This plan is inspired by builders, workers, and companies all around the country.
Supporting Those We Rely On in Times of Need
We’re going to double the Volunteer Firefighters Tax Credit, and the Search and Rescue Volunteers Tax Credit!
So many of our communities in rural Nova Scotia depend on volunteer firefighters for our safety. Last year, during the most devastating season of wildfires in record, volunteer firefighters and search and rescue teams put themselves at risk to help protect our communities.
Creating a New Youth Mental Health Fund!
A lot of young people in Canada feel like the deck is stacked against them, which contributes to very real mental health challenges.
We’re creating a new Youth Mental Health Fund to help community organizations provide better care and improve mental health services within their networks.
Thank you Karla
There are certain people you meet that leave a lasting impression. Karla MacFarlane is one of those people.
Being an elected official is not easy, but Karla has demonstrated a strong commitment to her constituency and Nova Scotia with competence, grace, and determination.
Happy Tartan Day!
Happy Tartan Day!
Today is a day for the millions of Canadians with Scottish roots to celebrate their culture and heritage.
We’ve got a Plan to Build More Apartments, Faster
Canadians should be able to afford a place to live in the cities and communities where they go to work.
We are scaling up the Apartment Construction Loan Program to provide low-cost loans to builders who offer rents at prices that middle class workers can afford.
A Plan to Build More Homes, Faster
We've got to build more homes in this country, and we've got to do it fast.
In the next couple of weeks, we will be introducing our comprehensive plan to get it done.
Launching a National School Food Program
We’re launching a National School Food Program!
When kids eat well, they do better at school.
But kids shouldn’t go without the food they need to be healthy or to get the most out of school. We’re launching a National School Food Program!
This is going to make a big difference, and I’m looking forward to seeing more programs offered at schools in our region!
Exciting News for Renters!
If you pay your rent on time every month, that should count for something.
As part of the upcoming federal budget, we’re going to make it easier to use your rental history to qualify for a mortgage so you can buy a home.
