The River John Pickleball Court is officially open!
What started three years ago as an idea on a community Facebook page, has turned into a well-built and impressive facility, driven by dedicated volunteers
More Affordable Housing for Antigonish
More affordable housing is coming to Antigonish!
We are investing more than $2.7 Million through the Antigonish Affordable Housing Society to build out the next phase of the Appleseed Court development, which is offering affordable rents to families and seniors in need.
A New Wharf for Big Island!
Big Island’s wharf was completely destroyed in 2022 when Hurricane Fiona hit our region.
Through the determination of community volunteers and with the support of the federal government, the wharf has been rebuilt and is proving to be well used by the community.
Planting Trees Across Nova Scotia!
Our forests are important. They serve as habitats for wildlife, help in the fight against climate change, and reduce the damage from severe weather events.
Both the 2023 wildfire season and Hurricane Fiona devastated our forests. These disasters displaced families and destroyed large forested areas.
Comfort Centre Upgrades Across Pictou County!
Climate change has brought an increase in severe weather to our region. Now, more than ever, we need to be prepared.
Today, I joined volunteers and members of local organizations to announce an investment of nearly $750,000 through the Hurricane Fiona Recovery Fund to support comfort centres at 30 different locations across Pictou County.
Building Innovation Here at Home!
Small businesses right here at home are providing innovative solutions to help solve the housing crisis.
Blair and the team at Twin Rivers Home Builders in Granton are hard at work scaling up their operations to make more of the components of their homes on-site to help meet the growing demand for housing here in Nova Scotia.
Our Communities Should be Safe, Respectful, and Inclusive Places for Everyone.
Our communities should be safe, respectful, and inclusive places for everyone.
The acts of hate and vandalism against the Ummah Masjid Community Mosque and its members in Antigonish are entirely unacceptable and have no place in our community. I am glad to see that law enforcement has acted quickly to address the situation.
Back to School!
It’s almost back to school season!
I stopped by the United Way of Pictou County this morning to drop off some backpacks for their annual Backpacks for Kids Program which helps families in need with the cost of going back to school.
140 Years of the Halifax County Exhibition!
The Halifax County Exhibition has been an annual tradition in Middle Musquodoboit for 140 years.
I had a great time taking part in today’s opening ceremonies to help kick off this terrific community event!
Supporting Veterans
If we can afford to send our citizens to war, we can afford to take care of them when they come home.
We are investing over $6.7 Million in two Nova Scotia-based organizations as part of the new Veteran Homelessness Program so that veterans can get the supports they need.
The Resilience of Nova Scotian Small Businesses
Small businesses here in Nova Scotia are incredibly resilient.
Moulding Warehouse had been operating in Hammonds Plains for 35 years until their facility was destroyed in the Tantallon fire last year.
More Funding for Public Transit
There’s more funding on the way for public transit in our small towns and rural communities!
We’ve supported public transit in small communities through organizations like MusGo Rider, Antigonish Community Transit, and Pictou County Transit, who are using federal investments to expand and improve services.
News That’s Out of This World!
We got some news that is out of this world!
We've wrapped negotiations on a deal with the United States that will increase Canadian space launch capability, bringing economic opportunity for the Canadian space sector, and growing space launches from Canada!
More Affordable Housing in Nova Scotia
We’re making a major investment in affordable housing in Nova Scotia!
We are helping build new homes for families in need, and repairing existing affordable housing developments so more families have a safe and affordable place to live in their community.
A Huge Week for Green Energy!
It’s a huge week for clean energy in Nova Scotia!
We are investing to grow wind energy resources, clean battery storage, and green hydrogen production here in Nova Scotia.
Meghan’s Place
“A society grows great when people plant trees in whose shade they shall never sit.”
My friend and valued member of our community, Meghan Bragg, included this quote in the obituary she wrote just before she passed away at this time last year.
Unique Solutions to the Housing Crisis
The solutions to the housing crisis can be found right in our own backyard.
Great Time at Moser River Days!
Moser River Days gives the people of Moser River a chance to come together every Summer to celebrate their community.
Supporting the Fishery
We’re supporting the fishery to help create jobs at home.
The seafood sector is a major contributor to our economy in rural Nova Scotia, and we need to maintain the wharves that support the harvesters who sustain this sector of strategic importance to the Province.
A Great Visit to the YMCA!
Raising kids is expensive. That’s why the federal government created the Canada Child Benefit. Since 2016, it has helped lift over half a million children out of poverty.
