Big Changes Coming to the Stellarton Memorial Rink
Big news for Stellarton!
The Stellarton Memorial Rink has seen a lot of history over the years. It was built in 1947 to honour fallen war vets from the community. It hosted local hockey teams, boxing matches, homecoming dances, and community events.
Over the past few years, the rink has been shut down. But a dedicated group of volunteers have come together to breathe new life into the building, and to give back to their community.
Big Things Happening in River John
Community spirit is alive and well in River John!
We helped the community build new pickleball courts with a grant and now now efforts are underway to add outdoor washrooms, seating, and lighting.
Honouring the Legacy of the No. 2 Construction Battalion
Today we honoured the legacy of the No. 2 Construction Battalion, Canada’s first and only all-black battalion, whose initial home was in the Town of Pictou.
Members of the battalion fought not only for their country, but also for their right to enlist. They were told it was a white man’s war. Initially, they were rejected, not because they lacked the skills necessary to support the war effort, but because of the colour of their skin.

Today we broke ground on the new Centre for Innovation in Health at StFX University!
The new facility will host the National Collaborating Centre for the Social Determinants of Health and include a new home for several departments at the university focused on health and well-being.

Rebuilding Big Island’s Wharf

We are helping rebuild this important piece of community infrastructure with support from the Hurricane Fiona Recovery Fund!
