Commemorating the Battle of the Atlantic
Yesterday we commemorated the Battle of the Atlantic, and reflected on the sacrifices made during the longest battle of the Second World War.
During the darkest days of the war, thousands of Canadians in the Royal Canadian Navy, the Canadian Merchant Navy, and the Royal Canadian Air Force faced perilous conditions to protect our seas and to maintain supply chains that supported the war effort.

A bit of good news for our ocean!
After Hurricane Fiona, we put some funding towards cleaning abandoned fishing gear (or “ghost gear”) out of the marine environment locally.
It is a significant source of plastic pollution that can remain in the water for centuries.
The Hurricane Fiona Ghost Gear Fund, which included over $7 Million in funding for local communities, has contributed to the retrieval of over 695 tonnes of gear and 453km of rope

This project is receiving a $3.6 Million investment from the federal government to provide Sheet Harbour residents with a new place to gather, connect, and engage with their community for years to come.
