Need help filing your taxes?

Every year people go without some of the benefits they are entitled to because they haven’t filed their taxes.

It can be a daunting task for some families, and we want to make it easier. Each year, the Canada Revenue Agency offers free tax clinics to Canadians with a modest income and a simple tax situation.

A simple tax situation means you have no income or your income comes from the following sources:

• Employment

• Pension

• Benefits such as CPP, Disability, CCB, EI, social assistance

• RRSP

• Support payments

• Scholarships, fellowships, bursaries or grants

• Interest (under $1,000)

To take advantage of these clinics, your income eligibility must:

• Total income for a single individual less than $35,000

• Total income for a couple less than $45,000 (add $2,500 for each dependent)

What to bring:

• Tax information, slips and receipts

• Social Insurance Number and ID

You should have already received your slips and receipts, but if you haven’t, or if you’ve lost them, call 1-800-959-8281.

There are free tax clinics available throughout Central Nova, including in Musquodoboit Harbour, Sheet Harbour, Antigonish, and New Glasgow.
