Thank you Northumberland Regional High School!

Thank you Northumberland Regional High School!

One of my favorite aspects of my job is engaging directly with the people in my community, and it’s an extra special experience when that engagement comes from young community leaders.

This morning, I stopped by Northumberland Regional High School to chat about my role as a Member of Parliament as well as Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, followed by a Q&A from the students in the room.

I was super impressed by the informed questions, which not only allowed me the opportunity to touch on local, national, and international issues, but demonstrated just how engaged young people are when it comes to making our community and our country a better place to live.

From settling refugees from Afghanistan, to the challenges surrounding inflation, and how we will progress on challenging social issues like medical assistance in dying, the students this morning had no shortage of thoughtful and detailed issues to discuss.

I enjoyed spending the morning connecting with you, and judging by the engagement in the room, I’m certain our future is in good hands!
