Antigonish is Going Green!

This project is a perfect example of the impact we can make when all levels of government work together!

July 2022

Antigonish is truly becoming a leader in green technology!

In July I announced a federal investment of $9.5 million dollars in two projects in Antigonish county to support energy efficiency upgrades and renewable energy generation. The first project will see 9 community buildings that include facilities at Keppoch Mountain, St. Joseph’s, Lochaber, Arisaig, the Mini-Trail Community Association in Lakevale, the Highlander Curling Club, St. Andrews, Heatherton, and Havre Boucher.

Once the upgrades are complete each building will be able to achieve a net-zero status when it comes to carbon emissions.

The second project will support the development of active transportation infrastructure in Antigonish by creating 5 kilometers of multi-use pathway along Trunk 4 between Beech Hill Road and Addington Forks Road. This new pathway will connect to other active transportation routes that are currently in development by the Town of Antigonish and the province-wide Blue Route.

These two projects will position Antigonish in a prime position to become Canada’s first net-zero community and the federal government is committed to helping them achieve that goal!
