That’s a wrap in Ottawa for 2022!
That’s a wrap in Ottawa for 2022!
It’s been a very busy year but I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish together over these last twelve months.
Canada has recovered faster than any other advanced economy in the world with more than 100% of our jobs returning, 400,000 more Canadians working today than before the pandemic, and our rate of unemployment is the lowest level in recorded history this year.
We’ve made significant investments in families, helped our students and recent grads get a better start in their professional life, improved the lives of our seniors and provided better support systems for our workers.
Some examples of what we’ve been able to accomplish include:
Cutting childcare fees by 50%
Introducing our Oil to Heat Pump Affordability Grant
Implementing a new temporary dental program for children under 12 while we develop a universal system
Permanently waiving interest on student loans and ensuring you don’t pay a cent until earning at least $40,000
Increasing OAS by 10% for seniors 75 and up
Extending EI Sickness Benefits from 15 weeks to 26
Maintaining Canada’s fiscal position as the strongest in the G7
Opening our doors to Ukrainians fleeing the war
Banning Conversion Therapy
Giving a double GST payment to all who receive GST
Providing a $500 payment to low-income renters
Making changes to the Canada Workers Benefit to deliver quarterly cheques
Banning the use of certain single-use plastics
I’m looking forward to coming back to Ottawa in the new year where I will continue advancing the necessary measures that will ensure you and your family succeed.
Until then, have a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
