Growing Rural Communities

As our small towns and rural communities continue to grow, we need to ensure that they have the necessary public transit services that allow everyone the opportunity to fully participate in in their community.

This morning, I announced that the federal government is investing more than $984,000 towards expanding essential transit services right here in Antigonish!

This investment will allow the Antigonish Community Transit Society to purchase two hybrid vans, an electric bus, construct two new bus shelters, and will also allow Antigonish to install the supporting charging infrastructure to keep these services moving.

More importantly, it will help local residents get to medical appointments, find opportunities to work, and to take part in local events. This service will have a positive impact on seniors, people living with disabilities, and low-income families, as well as the general public.

I know that this investment will provide a huge improvement to Antigonish’s existing fixed-route transit system as well as its door-to-door transit service, and will have a meaningful impact on all who call Antigonish home!
