Conserving our Wild Atlantic Salmon

Nova Scotia’s rivers were once home to thriving populations of wild Atlantic Salmon. This species has experienced serious decline in parts of our province. But, we have the ability to reverse this troubling trend by investing in conservation and restoration efforts.

Yesterday, I was thrilled to have the Hon. Jonathan Wilkinson, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, join me to announce a contribution of $1.2 Million toward restoration efforts through the St. Mary's River Association and additional $660,000 to the Nova Scotia Salmon Association for additional conservation work along the West River near Sheet Harbour.

I look forward to seeing this important work get underway and to one day seeing healthy and self-sustaining wild salmon runs return to our region.
