Over $70,000 announced for seniors and our community through the New Horizons for Seniors Program

I had a fantastic day in the Sherbooke area, starting a visit to the Port Bickerton Community Centre to see the new green space that is being built, in part thanks to a $24,000 federal grant. Thank you to Ardeth Dodge for arranging and for introducing me to everyone there. I was delighted to check to the space that’s been cleared, and how the improved parking lot will not only help the centre, but clear the space the fire department as well. The Port Bickerton Community Centre previously received $17,000 in 2017 through this fund to install new heat pumps.

Looking forward to coming back and seeing the progress in your new green space!

I then dropped into the social at the Indian Harbour Lake/Jordanville Community Centre to enjoy a delicious bowl of homemade chowder, along with homemade desserts. Following lunch, I was pleased to share that the centre was receiving $22,713 for a new ceiling, lighting and parking area. In 2016, the centre also received $14,252 through this fund to replace the windows and doors and to purchase a rowing machine. In 2017, they received $24,617 to replace the roof and replace the commercial dishwasher.

Members of the Stillwater Community Centre also joined us as I shared the exciting news that they were receiving $25,000 through the New Horizons for Seniors for their centre’s revitalization project. Work is well underway, and I was thrilled to hear that the night before they had double the numbers out for their card night! Here’s to continued participation and providing a space for your community to gather.

I am proud to see projects like this come to fruition, and the federal government wouldn’t be able to do that without hard working partners like this in our communities.
