What a great way to start the week!

Yesterday on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), I was pleased to announce that the Government of Canada is investing $500,000 in the Oland Stadium at St. Francis Xavier University to upgrade the Oland Stadium to host major events such as the 2018 Canadian Special Olympics.

This project will help the university host next year’s Special Olympics in the Town of Antigonish, which has an anticipated economic impact of over $5 Million for our region. In addition, the new bleachers will be accessible to ensure all of our resident can enjoy events at this beautiful facility.

This is the second time Nova Scotia has played host to the National Special Olympics, and is the very first time it is being hosted outside of a major city.

Congratulations to Antigonish, to StFX, and to all of the athletes who will be taking part in next year’s event!
