Prime Minister announces the appointment of two new Senators

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today announced that the Governor General has appointed two independent Senators to fill vacancies in the Senate, which includes Antigonish’s Mary Coyle!

I’ve known Mary from my time working with her as President of the The StFX Students’ Union, and have continued to work with her in my current role as a result of her many contributions to the StFX University campus community, the StFX Coady Institute, The Keppoch and various other causes.

As you’ll see at the link below, if you don’t already know, Mary has been an advocate for gender equality, international development, and is known for her leadership on issues such as the rights of Indigenous Peoples.

This is fantastic news for Mary, and for our region.

Mary, a sincere congratulations. This is a well deserved honour.

I look forward to continuing our professional relationship in your new capacity as a Senator representing the Province of Nova Scotia.
