E-Petition System
Did you know the House of Commons has a petition system? This is a new feature of the federal government and it allows Canadian citizens to create and sign official petitions online. Here are the nine steps it takes to go from creating your petition, to having it tabled for a government response:
Create a petition account
Write and submit a draft
Support of five Canadian citizens or residents of Canada
Publication on the website for 120 days
Preliminary review by the Clerk of Petitions
Sponsored by a Member of Parliament
Certification by the Clerk of Petitions if there are at least 500 signatures
Presentation in the House of Commons
Tabling of a government response
