Enshrining Owner-Operator Model for local fisheries

Fishing is the life blood of many rural communities in my riding. I've been working hard to promote the interests of local fishermen since my first day as an elected official.

It's unfortunate that my Conservative colleagues have been attempting to shut down debate on bill C-68. Enshrining fleet separation and the owner-operator model into law is a key component of this legislation and will ensure small independent fishers are protected from big corporate takeover.

It's about keeping our rural way of life and protecting an industry that has been the backbone of our communities for generations.

I want to thank my colleague, the Hon. Jonathan Wilkinson Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, for his hard work on this bill and for promoting the interests of fish harvesters in the communities I represent.
