Families of New Glasgow will benefit from improve community spaces for a better quality of life

Families located in the New Glasgow area will benefit from a more vibrant community where they can connect with their friends and neighbours as a result of a more than $27,000 investment from the Government of Canada.
They funding was announced today by Sean Fraser, Member of Parliament for Central Nova on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).
This funding will be used towards enhancements to the New Glasgow Riverfront Marina. The Marina, which is located along the East River in the downtown core, will continue to serve as a draw for tourists and residents in the community. The Town of New Glasgow also contributed $27,152 to a portion of the project which is now complete. Funds from the Town of New Glasgow went towards adding a wrap-around deck to the existing structure,a new roof, doors and windows. Since the completion of the project, the space has been host to various community events including yoga through the town’s recreation program, music programs and special events.
This investment is being allocated under the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP 150), a $300-million fund that was established to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday through investments in the community spaces that bring Canadians together. Of that amount $33.2 million is being invested across Atlantic Canada.

• CIP 150 is designed to leave a lasting legacy by supporting the rehabilitation or improvement of existing community infrastructure assets and facilities across the country that promote community and cultural benefits for the public.
• Infrastructure investments are a proven, effective means of boosting economic activity and enhancing the quality of life for Canadian families.
• Projects supported by the program are chosen based on assessment criteria including construction-readiness and public benefit, the extent to which funding is leveraged from other sources and linkages to Canada 150.
