Music, treats and good news on the Eastern Shore!
On Sunday April 23rd, we continued the announcements for the New Horizons for Seniors Program with a wonderful event at the Harbour Lites New Horizons for Seniors Centre.
There, I shared the details of three projects, that were announced under the total of over $192,000 for groups and projects in Central Nova.
Following the announcement of over $60,000 for projects on the shore (as part of the overall $192,000), representatives from each organization came up to share the following details:
Harbour Lites New Horizon Seniors Centre, $11,849: To replace appliances and furnace to continue to offer recreational activities for seniors such as meals, card parties and variety shows.
Old School Community Gathering Place, $25,000: To upgrade two doors and step, purchase a stove, tables and chairs to allow seniors to hold a seniors inclusion lab to identify the assets of seniors in the community.
Lake Charlotte Heritage Society, $23,000: For the creation of a permanent traditional lobster buoy exhibition at Memory Lane Heritage Village. Seniors involved with the society will locate, identify, prepare and permanently display traditional wooden lobster buoys and their histories to support social participation and inclusion of seniors.
Following the announcements, I was so pleased to join The Rusty Gaetzes for some music, while everyone who joined us enjoyed some treats. Doris rocked the house at 93 years old, and Florence at 99 laid claim to the title of the most senior club member!
It was a wonderful day on the Eastern, filled with music and good people!
