X-Citing Research Happening at St.FX!
Huge congrats to StFX University!
This week I visited some of the researchers and grad students to celebrate research awards of more than $18 Million that will support the cutting-edge research taking place on campus and with partners across Canada.
They’re going to be researching a wide range of topics that will have a direct impact on things that matter to our communities and the country.
Some of the local recipients include:
Dr. Hugo Beltrami, who will be part of the team working with NASA and the Canada Space Agency on their Atmosphere Observing System, which is set to launch in 2030.
Dr. Katie Aubrecht, who will be exploring rural mental health with a unique focus on a human rights lens;
Dr. Marcia English, who will be looking into improving the shelf life, flavour profile, and nutritional value of plant-based foods;
Dr. Kyran Cupdio will be researching life expectancies within different demographics in Atlantic Canada.
Dr. Catherine Girard and Michelle Sylliboy, who will be examining komgweiwikasikl script, the writing system of the 'nuk language.
In addition, two graduate students - Alexandra Reinhart and MacKenzie LeVernois - are receiving NSERC Scholarships that will allow them to conduct research in their respective Master’s studies.
Projects like these will spur innovation, improve health outcomes, advance reconciliation, and create economic opportunities for Canada.
Congrats to everyone involved and the entire StFX community!
